How it works?

01

Detects HIV-1 and HIV-2 Antibodies

The HIV self test kit is an HIV 1 and 2 test kit that looks for antibodies your immune system produces in response to HIV — not the virus itself, which is why the timing of the test after a possible exposure matters.

02

Oral Fluid Sample, No Needle

An oral fluid brush is gently swept along the gums to collect a sample, also called a saliva sample, and then placed into the tube of solution provided. The sample is checked for HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies inside this rapid HIV test kit. No finger prick, lancet or blood is involved.

03

Result in 20 Minutes, Confirmed by a Lab

A control line confirms the test ran correctly and a second line appears if HIV antibodies are detected, read at 20 minutes in complete privacy at home. A reactive result is a screening signal, not a diagnosis, and must be confirmed by a laboratory blood test.

How to Use the HIV Self Test Kit

1
Prepare. Before using the HIV self test kit, avoid food, drink, smoking, gum, toothpaste or mouthwash for the time stated in the leaflet. Wash and dry your hands and check the expiry date on the pouch.
2
Open the kit. Lay out the sealed test kit, the test tube, the oral fluid brush and the Instruction-For-Use manual on a clean, flat surface.
3
Collect the sample. Use the oral fluid brush to collect a sample from along your gums, following the Instruction-For-Use manual. Do not eat or drink during the test.
4
Run the test. Place the brush into the tube of solution as shown in the manual, and start timing.
5
Read at 20 minutes. Read the result in a well-lit area. Do not read it before 20 minutes. Follow the manual for how long the result stays valid.

How to Read Your HIV Self Test Kit Result

Read the strip at 20 minutes, in a well-lit area, with the result window facing you. Do not read the result before 20 minutes have passed.

Non-reactiveOne line, in the control position only

No HIV antibodies were detected in the sample. If there was a possible exposure in the last three months, test again after three months.

ReactiveTwo lines, one in the control position and one in the test position

Antibodies may have been detected. Any visible second line counts, however faint. This is a screening signal, not a diagnosis.

InvalidNo line in the control position

The test did not run correctly and the result cannot be used, whatever else appears on the strip. Use a fresh kit, and do not reuse any part of the used test.

A self test does not give a diagnosis. Do not start or stop any medicine based on a self test alone. A TAAL+ doctor is available to talk through any result, including a non-reactive one.

Safety Advice

🗓

Window Period

IMPORTANT

The HIV test window period is the time before antibodies show. This kit may miss an infection from the past three months. Retest after three months.

💊

PrEP, PEP or ART

IMPORTANT

Antiretroviral medicines, including PrEP and PEP, can cause a false negative on an antibody self test. This kit cannot confirm your status while on them.

🔬

Reactive Result

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

A reactive result is a screening signal, not a diagnosis. It must be confirmed by a laboratory blood test. A TAAL+ doctor can guide your next step.

🚫

Single Use

CAUTION

The kit is for one use by one person. Do not reuse or share any component, and check the seal and expiry date printed on the pouch before you start.

🧪

Developer Solution

CAUTION

Do not drink, swallow or pour out the solution in the test tube. Keep the kit out of reach of children and do not open the pouch until you are ready.

🩺

Medical Advice

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

This kit is a screening aid and does not replace a doctor. Please consult your doctor about testing after exposure, repeat testing and PrEP options.

Side Effects

Screening Test – Not a Diagnosis

The MORCHECK HIV Self Test Kit is a screening aid, not a diagnostic test. A reactive result must be confirmed by a laboratory blood test before any conclusion is drawn. It may not detect an infection from the previous three months, and anyone taking PrEP, PEP or ART may get an inaccurate result. Always confirm your result with a qualified doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an HIV self test kit and how does it work?

An HIV self test kit is a rapid screening test you use yourself, in private, without a needle or a clinic visit. The MORCHECK 3rd Generation HIV OMT Kit collects an oral fluid sample from the gums using a brush and checks it for antibodies your immune system produces in response to HIV. It detects antibodies to both HIV-1 and HIV-2. The result appears in about 20 minutes.

How accurate is the HIV self test kit?

The manufacturer states a sensitivity of 99.3% and a specificity of 99.8% for the MORCHECK HIV OMT Kit. Accuracy depends on following the instructions carefully and on testing outside the window period. A test taken too soon after a possible exposure can give a false negative, and anyone taking antiretroviral medicines may also get an inaccurate result. Every reactive result needs laboratory confirmation.

How long does the HIV self test kit take to give results?

The result develops in about 20 minutes. Do not read it before 20 minutes have passed, because the test has not finished running and the result will not be reliable. Follow the timing in the Instructions for Use supplied in your kit for how long the result stays valid after that. Read the strip in a well-lit area with the result window facing you.

Does the HIV self test kit need a blood sample?

No. The MORCHECK HIV OMT Kit uses an oral fluid sample collected from the gums, also called a saliva sample. There is no finger prick, no lancet and no needle at any stage.

What is the HIV test window period?

The HIV test window period is the time between a possible exposure and the point when antibodies reach detectable levels. Around 97 in 100 people develop antibodies within three months, though in rare cases it can take up to six months. An antibody self test may miss an infection acquired during that time. If you test within three months of a possible exposure and the result is non-reactive, test again after three months and consider a further test at six months.

How do you read the HIV self test kit results?

A line appearing in the control position confirms the test ran correctly. A control line on its own is a non-reactive result. A control line plus a second line in the test position is a reactive result, and any visible second line counts, however faint. If no control line appears the test is invalid, whatever else you see, and a fresh kit is needed. Compare your strip against the result guide in the Instructions for Use.

Can the kit be used while taking PrEP, PEP or ART?

No. Antiretroviral medicines, including PrEP and PEP, can suppress the antibody response the test relies on, so an antibody self test may return a false negative. This kit is not a way to monitor treatment or confirm your status while on these medicines. Speak to a doctor and use laboratory HIV testing instead.

What should be done if the HIV self test kit shows a reactive result?

A reactive result is a screening signal, not a diagnosis. It must be confirmed by a laboratory blood test before any conclusion is drawn or any treatment is started. Do not start or stop any medicine based on a self test alone. A TAAL+ doctor can arrange confirmatory testing and, if the result is confirmed, guide you into ART care.

How is the HIV self test kit delivered, and is the packaging discreet?

The kit is delivered across India in plain outer packaging with no reference to its contents, so nobody handling or seeing the parcel knows what is inside. Each kit is single use and individually boxed in a compact carton, making it easy to store discreetly or carry with you.

Is the HIV self test kit really free, and what does the offer include?

Yes. The MORCHECK HIV Self Test Kit is available free of cost across India until 30 September 2026, against a printed MRP of ₹300. There is no prescription required to order, delivery is included at no charge in plain, discreet packaging, and free TAAL+ doctor support comes with every kit, whatever your result. One free kit is intended for one person for a single use.
